Time Card Calculator with Lunch

Subtract unpaid lunch breaks automatically and see daily and weekly hours in both hours:minutes and decimal.

Which breaks should be subtracted?

Federal law does not require lunch or coffee breaks. When short breaks of about 5 to 20 minutes are given, they count as hours worked. Meal periods, typically at least 30 minutes with the employee fully relieved of duty, are not work time (DOL: Breaks and Meal Periods). So subtract the lunch, but not short coffee breaks.

An employee who has to eat at their desk or stay at their machine is still working while eating (29 CFR 785.19). That time should not be subtracted.

Example

In at 8:47 AM, out at 5:12 PM, 30-minute unpaid lunch. 8:47 to 5:12 is 8 hours 25 minutes. Minus 30 minutes = 7:55, or 7.92 decimal hours.
